"Lochaber is an area of great rugged beauty with its main area of population housed in the town of Fort William. The residential population of just under 20,000 can be boosted by a visitor population of over a million people per year, with the main source of income stemming from the tourism and leisure industries. This all impacts on the resources required to meet the challenges of the variety of policing issues required to be addressed. Through discussions with members of the retail trade, crime prevention seminars were held and these have assisted greatly with the prevention and detection of thefts, frauds, etc. The introduction of a CCTV system in Fort William has also greatly assisted in preventing and detecting such crimes."
